I bought this for my grandson after seeing the great reviews here, and before he was born. It was one of his first toys and is still the most popular. He is teething at 5 months, and loves to chew Sophie's nose, ear or leg. The fact he could grab onto its leg at an early age made it possible for him to learn to hold it too. He smiles at Sophie (although we call it Jerry Giraffe because my daughter has a dog named Sophie :)...) and he loves it! Jerry goes everywhere with him. My daughter has recommended it to other mommies, and so it continues to be a favorite to them too. You can't go wrong with this toy/teether.

Awesome  
My son absolutely loves this toy. He is able to chew on it for hours and loves that it squeaks when he bites it just right or hits it. It is soft and pliable but sturdy enough that it wont rip or wear out. He loves the many different angles of the toy because he can get the legs far back in his mouth or he can run his gums along the bumpy spine. This is an absolute must have for any baby who is teething. I never leave home without it. :2010-09-18 16:56:21

Dangerous if unsupervised.  
My four month old loved this so much he was able to stick one of the legs down his throat. If I hadnt been right there to pull it out Im convinced he would have choked to death. Its a teether all babies seem to love but do not let yours go unsupervised when with it! :2010-09-18 16:56:21

Just a teether  
We received this as a gift for my second child but I cant imagine ever paying $20 for a stupid teether. There is nothing special about it whatsoever. I really dont understand what the hype is all about. It is soft and cute and it squeaks but there are other teethers that are soft and squeak. My son had no interest in it - he preferred chewing on his blankie or basically any teether we gave him. I gave Sophie to a friend and I dont think her daughter cared for it either. Save your money and just buy something else. Also while my child never choked on the legs I can see how that would be possible. :2010-09-18 16:56:21

My baby treats it like other teething toys.. :(  
I was hoping shed like the giraffe since its SO expensive but too bad.. she treats it like other teething toys. When she first saw it she smiles at the giraffe a lot and tried to chew on it but after awhile she loses interest. Now it becomes one of the common toys and I regret wasting so much money on it. Should have just bought in quantity but cheaper toys. Anyway shes 6 month old now. Who knows shell like it more later on. I hope... :2010-09-18 16:56:21

GREAT teether!  
We hesitated buying this because it looked and sounded more like a dog toy than a teether and was expensive compared to other available teething toys but am so thankful that we did! Sophie has been well worth the money and we appreciate this teether so much that it will become a standard gift for all the new mothers for whom we purchase gifts. Why?
-The texture is perfect for massaging the sore gums that are producing teeth.
-It has multiple areas on which to chew: four separate legs two ears and a nose.
-The neck is the perfect size to allow infants to grasp the giraffe steadily and to manipulate it in the mouth easily.
-The squeaker is harsh and not necessary for the purpose of the teether but might offer some "cause and effect" benefit.
-It is not gender specific.
-It wipes off easily (except newspaper print).
-It is the perfect size to throw in the diaper bag or purse.
